ByteDance-backed AI assistant Doubao has added a utility bill payment feature, according to a report by the WeChat public account Dujia cited by ChainCatcher. Users can issue payment requests for water, electricity, and gas bills through voice or text inside the Doubao app, and the assistant will call up a service card that links to a bill payment page. Dujia said its hands-on test showed that entering commands such as paying electricity or water bills triggered the relevant service card. The page is divided into electricity, water, and gas fee sections. Availability is not yet uniform: some regions show the service as unavailable, while some cities have fully or partially enabled it. A person close to Doubao told Dujia that the product is gradually building service-handling capabilities for daily scenarios including transportation and bill payment. The report said the framework is already in place, but city coverage and provider integrations are still being pushed forward. At this stage, users still need to complete account binding, confirmation, and payment steps after the page opens. The current setup does not support direct one-sentence payment execution. The report also noted that Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen connected to bill payment earlier and can complete payment inside the conversation, while Doubao currently redirects users after surfacing the service card. The report and test results were not issued as an official Doubao announcement.

ByteDance’s AI assistant Doubao has added a utility bill payment entry, according to a report from the WeChat public account Dujia cited by ChainCatcher. Users can initiate requests for water, electricity, and gas bill payments through voice or text inside the Doubao app. The report said Doubao is also building out other daily service scenarios.

A person close to Doubao told Dujia that the assistant is gradually developing task-handling capabilities for everyday use cases, including transportation services and household bill payments. Dujia said its own test found that when users entered commands such as paying electricity or water bills in the chat box, the app displayed a matching service card and redirected them to a bill payment page.

The interface is split into electricity, water, and gas payment sections. Some areas are marked as not yet available, while some cities show full or partial access. The report said the framework has already been set up, but city rollout and service-provider integration are still in progress. Actual payment permissions have yet to be fully opened.

At the current stage, the conversation interface only triggers the service. Steps such as binding an account number, confirming the transaction, and completing payment are still retained, rather than being executed directly from a single sentence. The report contrasted this with Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen, which connected to utility bill payment earlier and can complete payment inside the conversation. Doubao, by comparison, currently opens a service card and sends users to a separate handling page. Food delivery and similar functions have not gone live yet.

The details above came from Dujia’s reporting and test results, not from an official Doubao announcement.
