News EditorMoonPay has added Cash App Pay as a checkout option, allowing eligible U.S. users to spend their Cash App balance on MoonPay and buy cryptocurrencies Block has not listed on Cash App. The supported assets include ether, Solana and XRP, and purchases can be sent to third-party and self-custody wallets such as Ledger, BitPay, Trust Wallet, MetaMask and Uniswap. Block’s global partnerships lead, Morgan Kuntze, said the company still sees bitcoin as the core of its digital asset strategy, but wants to give customers more choice and flexibility in how and where they pay. Cash App previously supported bitcoin only, then began a phased USDC rollout in late May. The MoonPay deal also fits into MoonPay’s broader U.S. expansion this year, which included adding Discover as a payment network and launching an enterprise stablecoin platform for banks and merchants. Cash App Pay gives MoonPay access to a funded wallet tied to tens of millions of U.S. users.
MoonPay has switched on Cash App Pay as a payment method, giving eligible U.S. users a way to spend their Cash App balance at MoonPay checkout.
The practical result is simple: money sitting in Cash App can now be used to buy cryptocurrencies that Block has never listed on the app. MoonPay’s on-ramp includes ether, Solana, XRP and more. Once the purchase is made, users can send the assets to third-party and self-custody wallets, including Ledger, BitPay, Trust Wallet, MetaMask and Uniswap.
For Block, the move extends a product that was long centered on bitcoin. Cash App sold bitcoin and nothing else for years, before starting a phased USDC rollout in late May. The new MoonPay partnership lets users reach other cryptocurrencies without keeping them inside Cash App.
In MoonPay’s announcement, Block global partnerships lead Morgan Kuntze said: “While bitcoin remains at the core of our digital asset strategy, we want to give customers choice and flexibility wherever and however they choose to pay.”
The deal also fits MoonPay’s broader push in the U.S. this year. The company added the Discover network as its third major card network and launched an enterprise stablecoin platform aimed at banks and merchants. Cash App Pay is the consumer-facing version of that expansion, and it gives MoonPay access to a funded wallet tied to tens of millions of U.S. users.
