Chainalysis has released the Blockchain Tracing Ontology, a data framework designed to establish unified, transparent, and verifiable standards for blockchain analysis. The framework aims to address the persistent issue of inconsistent address clustering results across different tools and methodologies, by introducing standardized evidence sources, reasoning processes, and confidence levels. This is expected to enhance the admissibility and interoperability of on-chain analysis in judicial forensics and compliance scenarios.
Central to the new framework is the 'wallet shard' hierarchical model, which replaces the traditional cluster concept. This model provides a more granular description of asset flows and relationships on the blockchain, reducing discrepancies caused by different clustering approaches. Chainalysis emphasizes that the ontology will enable investigators, regulators, and compliance teams to share consistent analytical logic across cases and platforms, thereby accelerating case resolution and reducing the risk of errors.
