Odaily reported that crypto KOL and DeFi OG Chen Mo recently posted on X about L2 Blob submission rankings, raising questions about the real activity behind World Chain (WLD). Referring to the data, Chen said it was “a bit surprising” that, when ranked by Blob submissions, Base was unsurprisingly in first place among L2 networks, while World Chain appeared in second place.
World Chain’s Position in Blob Submission Data
In Chen Mo’s description, a higher Blob submission count indicates greater transaction volume and a busier network. According to the data he cited, World Chain has remained in the second position behind Base since 2025. He also noted that World Chain has often stayed ahead of Arbitrum in this ranking, making the result stand out against the relatively limited visibility of its on-chain application activity.
Chen directly asked: “Who exactly is using it?” He said that, from the data perspective, World Chain does reflect stable usage demand. At the same time, he questioned the apparent gap between that data and the application layer, saying that the chain does not seem to have many applications. He added that, aside from using World Chain a few times on Morpho, he has rarely used it elsewhere.
The Gap Between Usage Data and Application Ecosystem
The core of Chen Mo’s comments was the contrast between World Chain’s high L2 Blob submission ranking and what he described as a poor application ecosystem. On one side, World Chain has consistently ranked near the top of the L2 list by this metric. On the other side, the on-chain application ecosystem does not appear especially rich based on his own experience.
Chen also connected the question to Worldcoin’s specific ecosystem use cases, including identity and payments. He asked whether these particular scenarios had already generated such a large increase in activity. His post did not provide a conclusion; instead, it framed the issue through three observations: World Chain’s long-standing second-place position behind Base in Blob submissions, its frequent ranking ahead of Arbitrum, and the limited application activity he has personally observed on-chain.
