Odaily reported that crypto KOL and DeFi OG Chen Mo recently posted on X, questioning the on-chain activity of World Chain (WLD) after citing L2 Blob submission rankings. According to his post, Base taking first place among L2 networks by Blob submissions was “no surprise,” but World Chain ranking second was an unexpected result.
Blob submission data places World Chain near the top
Chen Mo said that a higher Blob submission count indicates greater transaction volume and a busier network. Based on the data he referenced, World Chain has remained in second place behind Base since 2025 and has even ranked ahead of Arbitrum for long periods. This ranking contrasts with the relatively limited visibility of World Chain’s public on-chain application ecosystem.
In his original post, Chen Mo wrote: “A bit surprising. Ranked by Blob submissions, the No. 1 L2 is Base, which is no surprise at all, but No. 2 is actually World Chain (WLD). The higher this data is, the larger the transaction volume and the busier the network. And since 2025, World Chain has consistently been in second place behind Base, even ahead of Arbitrum for long periods. Who exactly is using it?”
Sparse applications contrast with steady usage data
Chen Mo further noted that, from the data perspective, World Chain does show stable usage demand, but the chain does not seem to have many applications. He said that apart from using Morpho on World Chain a few times, he has rarely used other applications on the network.
His question then turned to the specific use cases within the Worldcoin ecosystem. Chen Mo asked whether Worldcoin-related scenarios such as identity and payments have generated such large volume. The post did not offer a final conclusion; it instead raised doubts based on the difference between World Chain’s Blob submission ranking, the apparent scarcity of on-chain applications, and his own usage experience.
