Techub News, citing crypto.news, reported that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said the platform has received approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. According to Armstrong, Coinbase will become the first exchange to offer global crypto perpetual contracts to users in the United States.
The company plans to launch its own product on July 21. The report also said Coinbase will connect to global liquidity through Deribit, which it acquired. The approval places the planned U.S. offering within a framework cleared by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The report noted that unclear U.S. regulatory rules had previously pushed a large amount of crypto derivatives activity offshore, with many investors forced to use VPNs to access overseas platforms. Data cited in the report showed that global crypto perpetual contract trading volume reached $61.7 trillion in 2025, representing a major share of the derivatives market. The approval is described as a development that could reshape the U.S. crypto derivatives market structure.
