ChainCatcher reported that Coinbase Developer Platform has released a development update for its payment ecosystem. The update covers Coinbase for Agents, Coinbase CLI, MCP, developer wallets and the x402 protocol, with a focus on account creation for AI Agents, automated operations, identity and action integration, and the connection between agent workflows and stablecoin payments.

Coinbase for Agents enables dedicated accounts

With Coinbase for Agents officially launched, users can now create dedicated accounts for AI Agents. According to the update, these accounts can carry out automated operations such as transactions and asset management under user-defined permissions and risk-control rules. The design described in the update keeps Agent activity within a permission framework set by the user, while enabling automation around trading and asset management tasks.

Coinbase Developer Platform also showed the new Coinbase CLI and MCP simplified login flow. The demonstrated setup can use Claude for identity and operation integration, linking authentication and actions inside the developer workflow. This part of the update is aimed at simplifying how developers connect identity, login and operational processes when building Agent-related applications.

Swift SDK and x402 expand payment access

For mobile development, developer wallets are now available through the Swift SDK, allowing self-custodial wallet functionality to be integrated into native iOS applications. The update is directed at developers who need wallet capabilities inside iOS apps, and it places self-custodial wallet access alongside the broader Coinbase Developer Platform toolset.

On the payment side, the x402 protocol will support users inside Coinbase for Agents in paying directly with USDC balances in the coming weeks. The update states that this will allow Agents not only to operate accounts, but also to complete real payments directly through stablecoins held by users. Coinbase will also release a system update on June 16 to further improve capabilities related to payments and Agents.
