Coinbase revealed on X that the first mortgage in the United States backed by Fannie Mae and using Bitcoin as its underlying collateral has been successfully issued. The loan was originated and serviced by digital mortgage platform Better, with Coinbase providing the core technical infrastructure, including crypto custody and compliance solutions.

Coinbase stated that the innovative mortgage product is scheduled for a nationwide rollout this summer. Eligible Bitcoin holders will be able to pledge their digital assets as collateral for a traditional home loan without needing to liquidate their BTC. This offers crypto investors a new liquidity channel and broadens Bitcoin's application in the real-world asset (RWA) space.

Fannie Mae is a government-sponsored enterprise in the U.S. housing finance system, guaranteeing over half of American mortgages. The inclusion of Bitcoin as an eligible collateral asset underscores the accelerating convergence of traditional finance and the crypto market. Coinbase emphasized that the product will drive further adoption of crypto assets in conventional finance with full regulatory compliance.
