Odaily reported that Coinbase has launched “Coinbase for Agents,” a product designed to create dedicated accounts and subaccounts for AI agents. According to the information provided, the system enables AI agents to act on behalf of users for trading, fund management and payments. The design is intended to reduce the need for users to manually move funds between different wallets when carrying out agent-driven tasks.

Natural-language instructions for trading and fund tasks

With Coinbase for Agents, users can control an AI agent through natural-language instructions. The examples given include regularly rebalancing an investment portfolio, executing a trading strategy, researching market information, or automatically buying assets within a preset budget. The product connects account access, subaccount structures and payment functions to AI agents so they can complete financial actions based on user-defined instructions.

Coinbase said the product is built on its AI-related development work over the past year. That work includes the previously launched x402 open standard for AI payments and AgentKit. Together, these tools form part of Coinbase’s infrastructure direction for AI-agent-based financial activity.

Crypto platforms explore “non-human user” infrastructure

Coinbase is not the only company working on this area. Gemini, OKX and MetaMask are also exploring financial account and wallet infrastructure for AI agents. The activity across these platforms shows that the crypto industry is accelerating its work around “non-human user” scenarios, where automated agents can take on operational roles inside account, wallet, payment and trading systems.
