Dedicated accounts for AI Agents
According to ChainCatcher, Coinbase has launched “Coinbase for Agents,” a product designed to create dedicated accounts and sub-accounts for AI Agents. The service is intended to let AI Agents act on behalf of users in areas such as trading, fund management and payments, bringing actions that would otherwise require manual wallet operations into a more structured account framework.
Users can control AI Agents through natural-language instructions. Examples given include regularly adjusting an investment portfolio, carrying out trading strategies, researching market information, or automatically buying assets within a preset budget. Coinbase describes the product as a way for users to avoid manually transferring funds between different wallets when delegating approved financial tasks to an AI Agent.
Built on x402 and AgentKit
Coinbase said the product is built on the company’s AI-related development work over the past year. That work includes the previously introduced x402 open standard for AI payments and AgentKit. Coinbase for Agents extends those efforts into account and sub-account infrastructure for AI Agents, connecting AI-driven instructions with crypto trading, payments and fund management.
Other platforms, including Gemini, OKX and MetaMask, are also exploring financial account and wallet infrastructure for AI Agents. The report said this shows the crypto industry is accelerating its layout for “non-human user” scenarios, where automated agents can access trading, fund management and payment workflows under user-defined authorization.
