TechFlow reported on June 11 that Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said Coinbase has been approved to offer users in the United States what he described as truly global crypto perpetual futures trading services. According to Armstrong, Coinbase is now the first relevant platform to open global liquidity access to U.S. users.
Armstrong said the approval ends a period in which U.S. users had long relied on offshore platforms to trade perpetual contracts. Perpetual contracts are crypto derivatives without a fixed expiry date, commonly used to trade movements in digital asset prices. In this case, Coinbase emphasized that U.S. traders will be able to access the product through a compliant U.S.-based company.
Armstrong also said the move will support the integration of perpetual contract liquidity between the U.S. and international markets and reduce market fragmentation. He added that Coinbase received the approval after years of work and multiple trips to Washington for discussions.
