Counterpoint Research said major personal computer vendors all recorded sharp sales declines in the third quarter of 2026, with HP down 31%, Dell down 25%, Lenovo down 23%, and Apple down 11%. Asus posted a smaller 7% drop in shipments. The research firm also expects PC shipments to fall another 27% in the fourth quarter, saying commercial demand is holding up better than consumer demand but still cannot offset the broader contraction. By shipment volume, Lenovo led the market with 15 million units and a 26.3% share. HP shipped 10.3 million units, Dell 7.6 million, and Apple 5.6 million. Apple’s market share rose to 9.8% from 8.7% a year earlier, and Counterpoint said the MacBook Neo helped soften the decline. Analyst Minsoo Kang said higher memory and component costs pushed up system prices and led consumers to delay upgrades. David Naranjo said the industry is going through a structural adjustment as component costs, system pricing, and longer replacement cycles reshape the market. The report added that DRAM and NAND price increases may slow in the first half of 2027, while Micron said chip shortages could last until 2028.

What analysts said

Counterpoint analyst Minsoo Kang said rising memory and component costs pushed up system prices, leading consumers to delay replacing their devices.

David Naranjo said the industry is entering a structural adjustment phase, with component costs, system prices, and longer replacement cycles reshaping the market.

Memory pricing and chip supply outlook

The report also said price increases for DRAM and NAND may slow in the first half of 2027. It also cited Micron as saying chip shortages could continue until 2028.
