Zhao pointed to his own four years at Bloomberg as an example, saying large companies offer a full management system that fresh graduates usually cannot access if they launch a startup immediately after leaving school. He said that kind of experience can be valuable later for entrepreneurship. Zhao also said young people should focus on building a clear specialized skill. In his view, broad labels such as programming are not enough in a global market with tens of millions of programmers. He said reaching the top 1% or even 0.1% in a field can lead to returns that are several times, dozens of times, or even hundreds of times higher than those of others, adding that the difference in treatment between first place and second place can be very large.
