Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, said young graduates should not rush into starting a business right after college. Speaking at a closed-door sharing session in Hong Kong on Aug. 27, he said spending several years at a strong large company is a better path, with two years serving as the minimum and two to five years being the preferred range. Zhao pointed to his own four years at Bloomberg as an example, saying large companies offer a full management system that fresh graduates usually cannot access if they launch a startup immediately after leaving school. He said that kind of experience can be valuable later for entrepreneurship. Zhao also said young people should focus on building a clear specialized skill. In his view, broad labels such as programming are not enough in a global market with tens of millions of programmers. He said reaching the top 1% or even 0.1% in a field can lead to returns that are several times, dozens of times, or even hundreds of times higher than those of others, adding that the difference in treatment between first place and second place can be very large.

According to BlockBeats, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, or CZ, addressed a question about college students starting businesses during a closed-door sharing session held in Hong Kong on Aug. 27.

Zhao said young people should not be in a hurry to launch a startup. Instead, he suggested working at a good large company for several years first. He said two years should be the minimum, and described 2 to 5 years as a suitable range.

He cited his own four years at Bloomberg, saying that the complete management structure inside a large company is something fresh graduates usually do not encounter if they start a business immediately after leaving school. He said that experience can be helpful for entrepreneurship later on.

On career development, Zhao said young people should focus on building a distinct professional strength. He said the world is globally competitive: 「If you just say programming, there are tens of millions of programmers around the world. It is impossible for you to be twice as good as everyone else, but if you can become part of the best 1% or even 0.1% in the world, the returns you get may be several times, dozens of times, or hundreds of times greater than others'. The treatment of first place and second place can be very different.」
