Crypto analyst Darkfost said small- and mid-cap digital assets have posted the strongest market capitalization growth since late August, standing out against both Bitcoin and large-cap tokens. According to his post, the gap between the monthly average and yearly average market cap for this segment has kept widening, pushing the related ratio to 41%.
By comparison, the same ratio was 7% for Bitcoin and 3.5% for large-cap crypto assets. Darkfost said the pattern is unusual because Bitcoin typically leads the start of a broader market move. He pointed to the market behavior seen after the end of the 2023 bear market as an example of that more common sequence.
He also cautioned that small- and mid-cap assets tend to react more sharply to shifts in market conditions. That means the current trend, while notable, could reverse quickly.

For comparison, the same ratio is 7% for Bitcoin and 3.5% for large-cap crypto assets. Darkfost said the move is relatively rare because Bitcoin usually leads the start of a market rally, as was the case after the 2023 bear market ended.
He added that small- and mid-cap assets are more sensitive to market changes, and the current trend could reverse quickly.
