ChainCatcher reported that The Block reporter Gareth Jenkinson posted on X that, according to reliable sources, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde directly ordered Greece to reject Binance’s MiCA license application. The claim connects the ECB with Binance’s authorization process under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework.
According to the message cited by Jenkinson, Binance had previously been close to securing approval from Greek regulators, but the process was blocked after the ECB intervened. Jenkinson said that if the ECB ultimately gains control over this type of decision-making, it would not be good news for the crypto industry. The remarks place the focus not only on Binance’s individual license effort, but also on the role of EU-level institutional authority in crypto licensing decisions.
Separately, Cryptopolitan reported that Binance is now turning to France as its only remaining path to obtaining MiCA authorization. The report also noted that Binance has not yet formally submitted an application. Based on the information currently cited, Binance’s MiCA route in the EU has shifted from progress in Greece to a French option, while the formal filing stage has not yet begun.
