Decentralized finance protocol Ethena announced on June 2 that it has entered into a strategic partnership with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. Under the agreement, the two parties will leverage Coinbase's infrastructure and extensive user network to develop on-chain finance and savings products tailored for Coinbase's platform, which serves over 100 million users. Ethena confirmed that the first growth initiative under this collaboration will officially launch next week.
Alongside the partnership announcement, Coinbase's venture capital arm, Coinbase Ventures, disclosed that it has completed its first investment in Ethena's native token, ENA, on the open market. The purchase was executed via secondary markets, signaling that Coinbase is deepening its involvement in the Ethena ecosystem through direct token exposure beyond the strategic partnership itself.
Ethena has gained significant traction in the DeFi space with its synthetic dollar protocol USDe, which maintains its peg through a delta-neutral hedging strategy. By joining forces with Coinbase, the protocol stands to bring its on-chain financial instruments to a far broader audience spanning both retail users and institutional participants, potentially accelerating mainstream adoption of decentralized savings and yield products.
