Ethereum researcher Trent Van Epps said AI is making Ethereum development more ambitious while accelerating work toward a safer and more feature-rich system. In a post on X, he said AI tools are helping the Ethereum research and development community explore design space in new ways and test interactions between complex features.
He also pointed to recent formal verification work at ethlabs_org, saying tasks that were previously difficult to attempt can now be completed by AI agents within days. As one example, he said Ethereum’s Fast Confirmation Rule, or FCR, now has a safety proof based on the Lean language.
According to Van Epps, FCR lets applications confirm Ethereum blocks within seconds under additional assumptions, making it about 30 times faster than waiting for finality. The remarks frame AI as a tool that can shorten research cycles and support more advanced security work inside the Ethereum ecosystem.
