The Ethereum Foundation said leanVM, a key tool for Ethereum’s three-layer quantum-resistance upgrade, has recently completed end-to-end formal verification. In a post cited by Techub News, the foundation said that even as AI gives attackers more powerful capabilities, defenders can use the same tools and still retain a basic advantage because cryptography remains on the defenders’ side. The foundation also referenced remarks from Justin Drake at the Devcon 8 opening ceremony, saying the goal is to complete a full post-quantum and post-AI transition by December 2028. According to that timeline, the network would then have 24 months to deploy across the three forks following Glassnode. The update focuses on Ethereum’s longer-term security roadmap and the tooling needed to support a staged upgrade path.
According to Techub News, the Ethereum Foundation said in a post on X that leanVM, a key tool for Ethereum’s three-layer quantum-resistance upgrade, has recently completed end-to-end formal verification.
The foundation said that in an environment where AI empowers attackers, defenders can use the same tools as attackers while holding a basic advantage: cryptography is on the defenders’ side.
The Ethereum Foundation also cited remarks by Justin Drake at the Devcon 8 opening ceremony, saying it hopes to complete a full post-quantum and post-AI transition by December 2028. That schedule would leave 24 months of deployment time for the three forks after Glassnode.
