Ethereum’s active validator count fell 2.5% over the past seven days to about 863,000, according to Beaconcha.in data cited by The Defiant. Over the same period, the total amount of staked ETH still rose 0.08% to 43.74 million ETH. The reported drop in validator numbers was tied mainly to the validator consolidation mechanism introduced after the Pectra upgrade. Under that change, the maximum effective balance for a single validator increased from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, allowing operators to merge multiple validators without exiting stake. That reduces network communication and consensus overhead. Data cited in the report also showed that about 507,000 ETH is currently in the consolidation queue, with an estimated wait time of around 5 days and 11 hours.

Validator consolidation after Pectra

The report said the drop in validator numbers was mainly linked to the validator consolidation mechanism introduced after the Pectra upgrade. The upgrade raised the maximum effective balance for a single validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, letting operators merge multiple validators without exiting their stake. That cuts network communication and consensus overhead.

About 507,000 ETH is currently in the consolidation queue, with an estimated wait time of roughly 5 days and 11 hours.
