Fantasy Premier League has four chips in 2026/27: Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost. Each manager gets two of each across the season, eight in total, and only one chip can be active in any Gameweek.

Here are the four chips, what they do, when they are available, and how they are played. The Gameweek ranges apply to a manager who starts in Gameweek 1.

The season is split into two chip periods. First-half chips must be used by the Gameweek 19 deadline, and any first-half chip left unused is lost rather than carried into the second half.
Each chip also belongs to a specific action in the game. Wildcard and Free Hit are tied to transfer confirmation, while Triple Captain and Bench Boost are tied to saving your team on the “Pick Team” page.
How each chip is played and cancelled
Triple Captain and Bench Boost are activated when saving on the “Pick Team” page, and both can be cancelled before the deadline. Wildcard and Free Hit are activated when transfers are confirmed.
The cancellation rules are different. A confirmed Free Hit cannot be cancelled. A Wildcard can be cancelled only while it shows as “Pending”, which means there are zero or one confirmed transfers.
Free transfers follow a separate rule when a Wildcard or Free Hit is used. Saved free transfers are kept for the next Gameweek, but the free transfer for the current Gameweek is used up by the chip itself.
Availability windows and deadline rules
For the first half of the season, the official game settings give Wildcard and Free Hit a later start than the other two chips. Triple Captain and Bench Boost can be used from Gameweek 1, while Wildcard and Free Hit cannot be used in a manager's opening Gameweek because transfers are already unlimited then.
As of 15 September 2026, the Gameweek 19 deadline is 18:30 on Friday 1 January 2027 UK time, which is 02:30 on Saturday 2 January 2027 Beijing time. The Gameweek 20 deadline is 18:00 on Tuesday 5 January 2027 UK time. Deadlines can still change, but not within 24 hours of the scheduled time.
Free Hit has one extra restriction: it cannot be used in consecutive Gameweeks. If it is played in Gameweek 19, the next possible use is Gameweek 21.
Why a chip can show as Unavailable
These are the official reasons for an “Unavailable” label.

If a chip is unavailable, the check starts with the current Gameweek and whether another chip is already active. For Free Hit, the previous Gameweek matters too because back-to-back use is blocked by rule.
