In FPL 2026/27, you get 1 free transfer per Gameweek after your first deadline, can save up to 5, and each extra transfer costs 4 points.

In FPL 2026/27, each manager gets 1 free transfer per Gameweek after their first deadline, unused free transfers roll over up to 5, and every extra transfer costs 4 points at the start of the next Gameweek.

The main transfer rules

Here are the transfer rules for 2026/27.

RuleDetail
Before the first deadlineUnlimited and free
Free transfers1 per Gameweek
Saved free transfersCarried over, up to 5
Each extra transfer-4 points, deducted at the start of the next Gameweek
Most transfers in one Gameweek20 (not with a Wildcard or Free Hit)
PositionSame position as the player sold
Club limitUp to 3 players from one club
CancellingNot possible once confirmed

Before a manager's first deadline, transfers are unlimited and free. That also applies to managers who join after the season has started, up to their own first deadline.

After that point, transfers move onto the standard Gameweek system. In 2026/27 there is no extra batch of free transfers in December, unlike 2025/26, because the Africa Cup of Nations is not taking place during the season.

How to make a transfer on the “Transfers” page

A transfer removes one player from your 15-man squad and brings in another. The replacement has to be in the same position, fit your budget, and stay within the limit of 3 players from one club.

  1. Go to the “Transfers” page.
  2. Click the “X” on the card of the player you want to remove.
  3. Choose the replacement in the “Player Selection” column.
  4. Click “Make Transfers”.
  5. Click “Confirm”.

Once confirmed, the move is final and cannot be reversed. If you want to review what you have done across the season, your transfer history is on the “Transfers” tab in the “Transfers and Finance” section.

Points deductions, selling prices and edge cases

Extra transfers create a points deduction that is applied at the start of the next Gameweek. The deduction comes off your overall total, your head-to-head match score, and your cup score. In the official example, a 60-point Gameweek with an 8-point deduction gives a cup score of 52.

Selling prices follow a separate rule from the live market price. If a player's price has risen since you bought him, you keep half of the rise when selling, rounded down to the nearest £0.1m. If the price has fallen, you absorb the full drop. The official examples are below.

Buying price and current priceSelling price
Bought for £7.5m, rises to £7.8m£7.6m
Bought for £5.0m, falls to £4.7m£4.7m

There are also a few special cases around squad eligibility. If a real-life Premier League transfer leaves you with more than 3 players from one club, you can keep the squad as it is for the moment, but your next transfer has to bring you back under the limit.

New players are added to the game within 7 days of their transfer being completed. A player who has left the Premier League can remain in your squad and will score 0 points until you use a transfer to remove him.

Wildcard, Free Hit and saved free transfers

Playing a Wildcard or Free Hit does not wipe out the free transfers you had already saved. If you had 2 saved free transfers before using the chip, you still have 2 in the following Gameweek.

The Gameweek in which you play the chip works differently from a normal round, because that week's free transfer is used up by the chip itself.

FAQ

How many free transfers do you get in FPL?

After your first deadline, you get 1 free transfer per Gameweek. If you do not use it, it rolls over, up to a maximum of 5 saved free transfers.

How much do extra transfers cost?

Each extra transfer costs 4 points. The deduction is applied at the start of the next Gameweek, not at the moment you confirm the move.

Can you just sell a player without buying another one?

No. A transfer always removes one player and signs one replacement for the 15-man squad. The incoming player must be in the same position as the one sold.

How many transfers can you make in one Gameweek?

The normal limit is 20 transfers in a single Gameweek. That cap does not apply when you play a Wildcard or Free Hit.

Can a confirmed transfer be cancelled?

No. Once a transfer is confirmed, it is final. The official FAQ says it cannot be reversed.
