Triple Captain makes your captain's score count triple for the next Gameweek instead of double. In 2026/27, managers get two: one up to the Gameweek 19 deadline and one after that deadline until the end of the season.

What the chip does

In Fantasy Premier League, a captain normally scores double points. When Triple Captain is active, that changes to triple points for the next Gameweek. For example, a captain who scores 10 points counts 20 normally and 30 with Triple Captain.

The chip changes only how captain points are multiplied. It does not change squad size, transfer rules, or the effect of any other chip.

As of 15 September 2026, the official schedule lists the Gameweek 19 deadline at 18:30 on Friday 1 January 2027 UK time, which is 02:30 on Saturday 2 January 2027 Beijing time. The Gameweek 20 deadline is listed at 18:00 on Tuesday 5 January 2027 UK time.

Deadlines can still change, but the rules say they will not change within 24 hours of the scheduled time. The split between the first and second Triple Captain chips is the Gameweek 19 deadline.

How to play it, cancel it, and chip limits

Triple Captain is played on the “Pick Team” page when you save your team. It can be cancelled at any time before the Gameweek deadline, so the final saved setting before the deadline is the one that applies.

Only one chip can be active in a Gameweek. That means Triple Captain cannot be used in the same Gameweek as Bench Boost, and it also cannot be active alongside Wildcard or Free Hit.

The official chips guide also says Free Hit can help in Blank Gameweeks, while Double Gameweeks are typically popular for Bench Boost and Triple Captain.

FAQ

What happens if my captain does not play?

If the captain plays no minutes in that Gameweek, the multiplier passes to the vice-captain. With Triple Captain active, the vice-captain's score is tripled.

Can you cancel Triple Captain in FPL?

Yes. You can remove it any time before the Gameweek deadline on the “Pick Team” page, then save the team again.

Can Triple Captain and Bench Boost be used in the same Gameweek?

No. FPL allows only one active chip in a Gameweek, so those two chips cannot be combined in the same round.

How many Triple Captain chips are there in 2026/27?

There are two. The first is available in the first half of the season, and the second becomes available after the Gameweek 19 deadline.

What if both the captain and vice-captain do not play?

No player's score is multiplied in that case. The Triple Captain chip is lost and is not returned.
