Free Hit gives unlimited free transfers for one Gameweek, then your squad reverts at the next deadline. In 2026/27, managers get two, split across the season.

Free Hit is an FPL chip that gives unlimited free transfers for one Gameweek, and at the next deadline your squad reverts to how it was at the start of that Gameweek. In 2026/27, each manager gets two Free Hits, one in each half of the season.

What the chip does

Free Hit applies to a single Gameweek only. Once it is confirmed on the “Transfers” page, your moves for that Gameweek become unlimited and free, and the usual cap of 20 transfers in one Gameweek does not apply.

At the next deadline, your squad returns to the version you had at the start of that Gameweek. Your bank balance is also restored to what it was at the previous deadline, with player price changes from that Gameweek still reflected, while any bank changes made during the Free Hit spell are lost.

When it can and cannot be used

Free Hit cannot be used in Gameweek 1 because transfers are already unlimited before a manager's first deadline. The first Free Hit becomes available after your opening Gameweek and must be used by the Gameweek 19 deadline. The second becomes available after that deadline.

As of 15 September 2026, the official schedule lists the Gameweek 19 deadline at 18:30 on Friday 1 January 2027 UK time, which is 02:30 on Saturday 2 January 2027 Beijing time. The Gameweek 20 deadline is listed at 18:00 on Tuesday 5 January 2027 UK time. Deadlines can still change, but not within 24 hours of the scheduled time.

Free Hit also cannot be played in consecutive Gameweeks. If the first one is used in Gameweek 19, the second cannot become active in Gameweek 20 and must wait until Gameweek 21 at the earliest.

Only one chip can be active in a Gameweek, so Free Hit cannot be combined with Wildcard, Bench Boost or Triple Captain in the same round.

How to activate it and what carries over

You play Free Hit on the “Transfers” page when you confirm your transfers. If it is still shown as “Pending”, the transfers have not been confirmed yet. After confirmation, the chip cannot be cancelled.

Saved free transfers are not wiped out by Free Hit. If you had 2 saved free transfers before using it, you still have 2 in the following Gameweek. The free transfer for the Gameweek in which you play the chip is consumed by the chip itself.

The official chips guide says a Free Hit can help in Blank Gameweeks. In a Blank Gameweek, at least one Premier League club has no league fixture, so players from that club score no points in that Gameweek. When that match is rearranged into a later Double Gameweek, points count only for managers who have those players selected in the Gameweek when the match is actually played.

FAQ

How many Free Hits do managers get in 2026/27?

Managers get two. The first belongs to the first half of the season, and the second becomes available after the Gameweek 19 deadline.

Can Free Hit be used in consecutive Gameweeks?

No. The rules block back-to-back use, so a first Free Hit in Gameweek 19 means the next one cannot be active until Gameweek 21 at the earliest.

What happens to the bank after a Free Hit?

At the next deadline, the bank returns to the level from the previous deadline. Price changes from that Gameweek are still applied, but bank movements made while the chip was active do not stay.

How does Free Hit work compared with normal transfers?

It turns one Gameweek into a temporary squad rewrite with unlimited free transfers, then resets your squad at the next deadline. Normal transfers stay on your team into later Gameweeks unless you change the squad again.
