Franklin Templeton, a global asset management leader, has announced the completion of its acquisition of 250 Digital, a crypto investment management firm. The transaction includes the full investment team of 250 Digital and all liquidity crypto strategies previously managed by venture capital firm CoinFund. Franklin Templeton will inject capital into these strategies to ensure a smooth transition and continued operations.
Acquisition Details
250 Digital was originally a spin-off from CoinFund, dedicated to crypto asset management. In April 2026, Franklin Templeton first revealed its intention to acquire 250 Digital to expand its cryptocurrency investment business. With the deal now closed, the 250 Digital team, including co-founder Christopher Perkins and chief investment officer Seth Ginns, has fully integrated into Franklin Templeton's structure. The liquidity crypto strategies once operated by CoinFund have also been transferred under the new unit.
Launch of Franklin Crypto
With the acquisition finalized, Franklin Templeton has established a dedicated digital asset management division named Franklin Crypto. Christopher Perkins, co-founder of 250 Digital, serves as head of the unit, while Seth Ginns takes the role of chief investment officer. Together with Tony Pecore from Franklin Templeton's existing digital asset team, they will manage the division and report directly to Sandy Kaul, head of innovation. Franklin Crypto will offer actively managed crypto investment strategies to institutional clients such as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds. This move underscores Franklin Templeton's commitment to meeting institutional demand in the digital asset space and marks a significant step in its strategic expansion.
According to earlier reports from Foresight News, when Franklin Templeton announced the acquisition in April, it had already planned to launch a crypto division focused on serving pension funds and sovereign wealth funds, naming it "Franklin Crypto." That plan has now materialized. Franklin Crypto will combine 250 Digital's investment expertise with Franklin Templeton's global management resources to deliver professional and stable crypto asset management services. The acquisition and the launch of Franklin Crypto represent a continued push by Franklin Templeton into digital assets and are expected to further drive traditional financial institutions' adoption of crypto.
