Techub News, citing NewsBTC, reported that SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce criticized the agency’s approach to regulating the cryptocurrency industry in her farewell speech titled Peirce Out. Peirce said the SEC has relied too heavily on enforcement actions to set boundaries for the crypto sector, and she compared parts of the regulatory process to an escape room.

A call for clearer crypto rules

Peirce emphasized that crypto companies need a clearer rules-based framework, rather than a system in which business conduct is defined mainly by the risk of enforcement. Her remarks are consistent with her long-running support for digital asset innovation. Known as “Crypto Mom,” Peirce has been one of the important pro-crypto voices inside the SEC.

According to the report, Peirce will join Regent University School of Law as a faculty member in November 2026. Her departure will remove a significant internal voice supporting the cryptocurrency industry at the SEC, and could affect the agency’s future position on token, exchange and custody policies.
