What a Gameweek means in FPL
A Gameweek is the scoring block for a round of Premier League fixtures. Your selected players score within that round, and the game then applies end-of-Gameweek actions such as automatic substitutions and captain changes after all matches in the Gameweek have been played.
Each deadline is tied to that round. The deadline is 90 minutes before the kick-off of the first match in the Gameweek; it can change, but it will not change within 24 hours of its scheduled time. For 2026/27, the first deadline was on 21 August 2026 and the Gameweek 38 deadline is scheduled for 30 May 2027.

How Double and Blank Gameweeks work

A Double Gameweek means at least one Premier League club, usually more, has two league fixtures in the same Gameweek. A Blank Gameweek means at least one club, usually more, has no league fixture in that Gameweek.
The official chip guide says a “Free Hit” can help in Blank Gameweeks, and that Double Gameweeks are typically popular for “Bench Boost” and “Triple Captain”. As of 15 September 2026, every club plays once in each of the 38 Gameweeks in the official fixture list.
Deadlines, score changes and when a Gameweek is final
Gameweek points can still move after the last match has finished. The rules say scores can change until 09:00 UK time on the day after the final match of the Gameweek, and after that there are no further adjustments except in extraordinary circumstances.
Before 2026/27, the lock point came one hour after the final whistle of the last match in the Gameweek. It was pushed later so post-match Opta review data had more time to feed into the Bonus Points System and defensive contribution points.
Automatic substitutions and captain changes are processed only at the end of the Gameweek. In a Double Gameweek, a player who appears in only one of the two scheduled matches does not qualify for an automatic substitution, and a captain who appears in only one of those two matches is not replaced as captain.
