In Fantasy Premier League, a team can leave a classic league at any point in the season unless it is in that league's cup. Global leagues cannot be left, and a head-to-head league cannot be left once fixtures have been generated.
Which leagues can be left
Here are the leave rules for the main FPL league types.
| League | Can a team leave? |
|---|---|
| Invitational classic league | Yes, at any point, unless entered in that league's cup |
| Head-to-head league | No, once fixtures have been generated |
| Overall league | No |
| Country league | No |
| Favourite club league | No |
| Gameweek start league | No |
Why leaving is sometimes blocked
There are two main reasons. One is the league type itself: some leagues are entered automatically and cannot be left, including the overall league, country league, favourite club league and Gameweek start league.
The other is competition structure. A head-to-head league is locked after fixtures are generated because any exit would affect the fixture schedule. An invitational classic league is different, but the leave option stops being available once the team is in that league's cup.
Every invitational classic league gets a cup. Those cups begin in the second half of the season, depending on league size, and they end in Gameweek 38.
Removal, rejoining and league closure
If the leave option is missing in an invitational classic league, the official FAQ says to check whether you are the league administrator.
If a team has disappeared from a league, the official explanation is simple: the team either removed itself by accident or was removed by the league administrator. The next step is to try rejoining with the league code or ask the administrator.
Only classic leagues can be closed to new entries, and that is done by the administrator in “Administer”. When a league is closed, no new managers can enter until it is reopened, so rejoining may depend on the administrator opening the league again.
FAQ
Why can't my team leave an FPL league?
Start with the league type. Global leagues cannot be left, and head-to-head leagues are locked once fixtures have been generated.
If it is an invitational classic league, the team may already be in that league's cup, or you may need to check whether you are the league administrator.
Can a team leave the overall league in FPL?
No. The overall league is one of the global leagues that every registered team enters automatically.
The same leave restriction also applies to the country league, favourite club league and Gameweek start league.
What happens if a team is removed from an FPL league?
The official FAQ gives two explanations: the team left by accident, or the league administrator removed it. In either case, the team can try to rejoin with the league code or ask the administrator.
If the league has been closed to new entries, rejoining will have to wait until the administrator reopens it.
Who can remove a team from an FPL league?
A league administrator can remove a team. The official FAQ lists removal by the administrator as one possible reason a team is no longer in a league.
The other listed possibility is accidental self-removal, so an absent team does not always mean an administrator acted.
