According to BlockBeats on June 18, Hsiao-Wei Wang, described as the Ethereum Foundation’s first Chinese executive director, announced her departure today. In her statement, Wang said she had decided to “prioritize personal life and future direction,” adding that “now is the right time to step behind the scenes” while she continues to think about what comes next.
Vitalik Buterin responded with a post strongly recognizing Wang’s work. He said she has been “a steadfast contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem for ten years” and added that he looks forward to “her next adventures.” His remarks focused on her long-running role within the Ethereum community and acknowledged the contributions she made over the past decade.
On March 10, 2025, the Ethereum Foundation, also known as EF, announced that Wang Xiaowei, or Hsiao-Wei Wang, whose Chinese name is Wang Xiaowei, had been promoted to the board. At that time, she became the first Chinese leader in the seven-year history of EF to rise from a technical grassroots role to the board. Her departure comes a little over a year after that promotion.
