A cyberattack triggered by a team member's infected laptop has forced Humanity Protocol to scrap its entire old H token supply. After approximately 447 million H tokens were stolen or maliciously minted, the protocol announced that all legacy H on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Humanity mainnet are now deprecated. A new Ethereum ERC-20 version of H will be airdropped 1:1 based on a pre-attack snapshot.
Old H Disabled, New Token Distributed via Snapshot
According to the official statement, the old H is no longer functional across all three chains. In its place, a brand-new ERC-20 H token will be issued, with the airdrop strictly following the snapshot taken before the breach. Attacker addresses and any associated wallets are excluded from the distribution.
Claims are handled in two ways: externally owned accounts (regular wallets) will receive the airdrop directly, while funds locked in smart contracts—such as liquidity pools—will require further coordination. Holding H in a personal wallet remains the simplest path to receiving the new tokens.
Mainnet Restart in Weeks, New H as Gas Token
Humanity also revealed plans to restart its mainnet within the coming weeks, using the new H as the native gas token. A compensation appeal portal has been launched for two edge cases: complex on-chain states (e.g., contract holdings) and users who purchased H after the snapshot but still hold the old tokens. These buyers are not on the automatic airdrop list and must file an appeal.
Post-snapshot buyers represent the most awkward group in this recovery plan. Although Humanity has provided a complaint channel, many traders have voiced frustration on-chain, as their purchases were made after the snapshot and thus are not covered by the automatic distribution.
As of now, the old H market is effectively frozen, and the new H airdrop has not yet been executed. Holders who were in the snapshot must ensure their wallet addresses are ready to receive. Attacker addresses are permanently blacklisted and will receive zero tokens.
