Regulated prediction market platform Kalshi announced on X the official launch of its Bitcoin perpetual contract. Referencing the Bitcoin spot price, the contract has been reviewed and approved by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), making it the first regulated Bitcoin perpetual contract in the country. The CFTC confirmed that the product, designated as BTCPERP, complies with the Commodity Exchange Act and applicable regulatory requirements, including the core principles for designated contract markets (DCM).
The approval involved a thorough check of the contract’s design, trading facilities, and clearing mechanisms. As a federally supervised prediction market, Kalshi’s move into crypto derivatives extends a compliant trading avenue to U.S. users. The contract is explicitly classified as a futures contract, reinforcing the agency’s stance that perpetual swaps can fall under its jurisdiction when structured appropriately.
By bringing a Bitcoin perpetual contract under full regulatory oversight, Kalshi sets a precedent that could serve as a reference for future crypto derivative offerings in the United States.
