Prediction market platform Kalshi announced via X that it has officially launched a Bitcoin perpetual contract, marking the first regulatory-approved perpetual contract for Bitcoin in the United States.
The contract, trading under the ticker BTCPERP, references the spot price of Bitcoin and is classified as a futures contract. The product is accessible directly through the Kalshi platform, providing users with a regulated trading environment.
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) had previously completed its review and determined that the BTCPERP contract complies with the Commodity Exchange Act and related regulatory requirements, including the core principles applicable to designated contract markets (DCM).
Prior to this launch, the US regulated crypto derivatives market lacked a perpetual contract offering, with traditional futures contracts dominating the landscape. Kalshi's BTCPERP fills that gap, offering traders a compliant avenue to gain BTC price exposure without an expiration date.
