According to Odaily, citing Cointelegraph, people familiar with the matter said prediction market platform Kalshi has disclosed that it is in contact with investment banks for early, informal discussions about an IPO. A spokesperson for Kalshi declined to comment on the matter.

Prediction Markets Face State-Level Legal Challenges

The IPO-related discussions come after the U.S. state of Kentucky sued five prediction markets, including Kalshi and Polymarket. Kentucky accused the platforms of operating unlicensed illegal sports betting and gambling platforms.

In addition to Kentucky, at least 17 other states have taken prediction market operators to court. The broader disputes also involve the regulatory authority of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, or CFTC, over event contracts. Kalshi’s reported IPO discussions are therefore taking place against the backdrop of ongoing legal and regulatory proceedings involving prediction market operators.
