Odaily reported that Polish President Karol Nawrocki said in a statement that he has vetoed a cryptocurrency regulation bill for the third time. Nawrocki said the reason for the veto was that the bill did not include the opinions he had previously put forward. Poland’s parliament passed the bill in May this year, with the stated aim of regulating the country’s cryptocurrency industry.
Bill Tied to the EU MiCA Framework
The legislation was intended to implement the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, known as MiCA. Poland was required to complete the relevant legislative approval before July. Nawrocki had already vetoed similar bills twice before, and this latest veto keeps the dispute centered on the relationship between the government’s legislative process and the president’s requested revisions.
In his statement, Nawrocki said he supports regulation of the cryptocurrency industry. However, he said the Polish government ignored most of the amendments proposed by his office during the legislative process. His position, as described in the statement, focuses on the content of the bill and the extent to which his office’s proposed changes were reflected in the final text.
