Latvia plans to introduce a regulatory framework for real-world asset, or RWA, tokenization in the first half of 2027, according to Economy Minister Viktors Valainis. He said commercial real estate could be among the first use cases under the planned regime, while government bonds are also being treated as a priority area. The proposal is still being developed by the Economy Ministry together with the central bank, the Finance Ministry, and industry representatives. Valainis also said an assessment of the legal changes needed for the framework, which had originally been scheduled for completion by Oct. 1 this year, is still ongoing. The update points to continued policy work rather than a finalized rule set, with the legal review not yet complete.
