Leaked images allegedly originating from the leading NFT marketplace OpenSea indicate that the platform may soon introduce support for Solana-based NFTs. The images, discovered by renowned tech blogger and hacker Jane Manchun Wong, show OpenSea's blockchain filter listing Solana as an option, alongside the Phantom wallet integration.
Leaked Details: Solana Integration and Phantom Support
Wong tweeted, "OpenSea is working on Solana integration, as well as Phantom wallet support." She also shared a screenshot of OpenSea's chains filter displaying Solana. This is not the first time rumors of OpenSea adding Solana have surfaced; back in mid-November 2021, Solana advocate @bhaleyart posted a similar image.
Wong is well-known for uncovering yet-to-launch features from major tech platforms and was featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 2022. Her findings have often proven accurate.
Current Scale of OpenSea and Solana NFT Ecosystem
OpenSea currently supports Ethereum and Polygon, with a total NFT sales volume of approximately $22.73 billion and over 1.36 million traders. Adding Solana would open the platform to one of the fastest-growing NFT ecosystems.
Solana is the third-largest blockchain for NFT sales, with about $1.26 billion in total NFT sales, involving 244,107 buyers across 1,324,284 transactions. The leading Solana-native NFT marketplace, Magic Eden, boasts 414,260 traders and $706 million in all-time sales volume.
Market Implications and Competition
OpenSea previously integrated Polygon, benefiting from its low fees compared to Ethereum's layer 1. Similarly, Solana offers negligible transaction costs. If integrated, OpenSea could attract cost-sensitive NFT users, intensifying competition with Magic Eden and other Solana marketplaces.
FTX launched its own Solana-based NFT marketplace in October 2021, later adding Ethereum support. OpenSea's potential entry would further validate Solana's NFT ecosystem and may boost liquidity and adoption. As of press time, OpenSea has not officially commented on the leaked images.
