Runestone co-founder Leonidas has announced plans to launch DOG Mode, an open-source Bitcoin client designed to bypass the restrictions that BIP 110 would place on non-financial data, according to CoinDesk. The proposed client would raise the standard transaction maximum weight from 400,000 to 3,900,000, a level close to full block capacity, and cut the dust limit from 294-546 satoshis to 1 satoshi. Leonidas said removing the dust threshold could unlock about $25 million in idle funds. He also said DOG Mode would not require consensus changes or any vote, because it only alters a single node’s relay rules. If enough nodes run the software and miners accept the transactions, they can still be confirmed. Leonidas added that DOG Mode diverges less from Bitcoin Core than Knots does. There is no codebase or release version yet, and he is calling on developers to contribute code and on miners to add support. The DOG token was down 1.2% over the past 24 hours.

Runestone co-founder Leonidas said he is launching DOG Mode, an open-source Bitcoin client meant to bypass BIP 110 restrictions on non-financial data, according to CoinDesk.

The client would raise the standard transaction maximum weight from 400,000 to 3,900,000, bringing it close to full block capacity. It would also lower the dust limit from 294-546 satoshis to 1 satoshi. Leonidas said removing the dust rule would unlock about $25 million in idle funds.

BIP 110 seeks to limit arbitrary data through a user-activated soft fork. The proposal needs support from 55% of miners, and current backing is close to zero.

Leonidas said DOG Mode does not need any consensus change or vote. Instead, it only changes the relay rules on a single node. If enough nodes run the client and miners accept the transactions, those transactions can be confirmed.

He also said DOG Mode departs from Bitcoin Core by less than Knots does. There is no code repository or release version yet, and Leonidas is calling on developers to contribute code and on miners to add support.

The DOG token fell 1.2% in the past 24 hours.
