MetaMask, the largest Web3 wallet globally, is undergoing a major evolution. On June 30, parent company Consensys officially launched "Money Account," a new self-custodial account built on the high-performance Monad blockchain. It integrates stablecoin yield, on-chain trading, and real-world spending. Users deposit stablecoins to automatically earn returns and can spend funds directly via card without unlocking.

Built on Monad, Core Asset mUSD

Money Account retains full self-custody, giving users private key control. The underlying infrastructure is the rising Monad blockchain, not Ethereum mainnet. MetaMask also introduced its own dollar-pegged stablecoin mUSD as the core asset. Deposited stablecoins are automatically allocated to decentralized lending protocols (DeFi) to generate yield. The feature currently integrates Morpho, with plans to add Aave and others, offering up to 4% APY.

Seamless Yield and Spending

Previously, earning DeFi yield required complex steps like cross-chain bridging, approvals, and staking; cashing out for spending meant layers of unlocking and exchange withdrawals. Money Account eliminates these barriers. Funds earning yield inside the account can be spent directly via the MetaMask Card at any Mastercard merchant globally, without prior unlocking. Funds are also available for on-chain swaps, perpetuals, or prediction markets within MetaMask.

A table highlights four key features: passive yield (auto-integration with Morpho, future Aave, up to 4% APY), physical spending (MetaMask Card integration), on-chain trading (swaps, derivatives), and self-custody (users hold private keys, unlike CEX products).

Joe Lubin: Let Your Money Work in MetaMask

Joe Lubin, founder and CEO of Consensys and co-founder of Ethereum, said: "People have been accumulating wealth in MetaMask, but until now couldn't make those assets work there. With Money Account, that changes. The moment you deposit, you start earning, and when you need to spend, you can."

The launch taps the trend of stablecoins evolving from a mere transfer medium into a practical financial tool. Alongside Money Account, MetaMask recently introduced an AI agent wallet with built-in security, signaling efforts to lower entry barriers for mainstream users into Web3 finance.
