According to ChainCatcher, Strategy founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor said in a recent statement that the crypto market is currently in a phase of intense competition. He pointed to the continuing contest among Ethereum, Solana and BNB, while noting that Sui was once described as the “next Solana,” but that narrative has already collapsed. The market, he said, has now started to focus on Hyperliquid.
Competition Extends Across Layer 2 Networks
Saylor’s comments were not limited to major Layer 1 tokens. He also referred to the Layer 2 sector, where projects such as Arbitrum and Base are competing fiercely. In his view, the broad rivalry across chains, ecosystems and new narratives has weakened the “monetary premium” that had previously been assigned to these crypto tokens.
He argued that even the strongest supporters of these tokens are now beginning to recognize that they are not money and will not receive the premium associated with monetary attributes. Under this framing, the valuation of such assets shifts away from a money-like narrative and toward practical utility.
Bitcoin Framed as Digital Capital
Saylor contrasted this environment with Bitcoin’s position over the past 12 months, which he described as an extremely favorable period for the asset. He said Bitcoin has further consolidated its role as the dominant digital monetary network, and that the market has established Bitcoin as “digital capital.”
He also stated that the past year has proven the concept of “digital credit” to be viable. His remarks reinforce a distinction between Bitcoin and other crypto tokens: while many networks are still competing over narratives and use cases, Saylor presents Bitcoin as the dominant digital monetary network already recognized by the market, with other tokens’ future value depending on their actual utility.
