Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation is set to implement Kinexys, JPMorgan Chase’s blockchain-based payment platform, to support its global fund transfers. The move highlights how major multinational corporations are increasingly turning to blockchain infrastructure to improve treasury operations and streamline cross-border payments.
Faster and More Flexible Payments
According to the source material, Kinexys is designed to enable near-instant transactions. For a global company managing funds across multiple regions, this could reduce delays tied to banking hours, time-zone mismatches, and conventional processing chains. By using a blockchain-based payment rail, Mitsubishi aims to make its internal and cross-border transfers more efficient.
The adoption is also intended to reduce dependence on traditional banking systems while providing round-the-clock service. A 24/7 payment environment can be especially valuable for large enterprises with continuous international operations, where faster access to funds may improve liquidity management and settlement coordination.
JPMorgan Expands Kinexys Scale
JPMorgan is targeting further growth for the platform, with plans to raise Kinexys’ daily transaction volume from $7 billion to $10 billion. Since launching in 2020, the system has processed more than $3 trillion in cumulative transaction volume, underscoring its growing role in institutional payment flows.
More broadly, Mitsubishi’s decision points to a wider trend: blockchain payments are moving beyond crypto-native use cases and into mainstream corporate finance. As companies seek faster settlement, continuous availability, and more efficient global cash movement, bank-led blockchain networks may take on a more prominent role in international payments infrastructure.
