John Hoffman, head of portfolio management at Ondo Finance, said tokenized assets are developing along a path that closely resembles the early years of exchange-traded funds. Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium 2026, Hoffman said the ETF market’s 33-year history mirrors the way tokenization is evolving today, with both starting under a cloud of doubt before moving toward broader adoption. He said the market is once again watching a new technology work its way into finance step by step.
Hoffman joined Ondo a little more than two months ago after 18 years in traditional finance, including time leading Invesco’s ETF business in the Americas. He said early ETF products faced many of the same questions now directed at tokenized assets, including whether the technology was workable and what real problem it was solving. Ondo began offering tokenized U.S. Treasury products in early 2023 with the launch of OUSG, a fund aimed at institutional investors seeking exposure to short-term U.S. government debt. Hoffman said Ondo’s U.S. Treasury products now have about $2 billion in total value locked. The remarks were reported by The Block.

He said ETFs also faced similar skepticism in their early days, including questions about whether the technology was viable and what problem it actually solved. He said those same questions are now being raised around tokenized assets.
