OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is now available through its API for eligible ChatGPT Work and Codex users. The model runs on Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU architecture and uses OpenAI inference optimizations tailored to Nvidia hardware. According to the company, that setup delivers token generation speeds 8x faster than Astra Standard mode. OpenAI said the performance gain is intended to shorten the edit-test-debug cycle for coding agents and improve response times in interactive applications. Philippe Tillet, OpenAI’s head of inference, said Nvidia’s investment in tools and documentation has helped OpenAI program effectively for Blackwell and Rubin GPUs, turning that knowledge into high-performance kernels with advantages in latency, throughput, and cost. OpenAI Chief Technology Officer of Compute Uday Ruddarraju said the partnership with Nvidia is helping make AI faster and more useful.

According to Techub, citing the NVIDIA Blog, the model runs on Nvidia Blackwell GPUs. With inference optimizations built by OpenAI for Nvidia’s architecture, Astra Ultrafast generates tokens 8x faster than Astra Standard mode. OpenAI said the model is designed to shorten the edit-test-debug cycle for coding agents and improve response times for interactive applications.

Philippe Tillet, OpenAI’s head of inference, said Nvidia’s deep investment in tools and documentation has enabled OpenAI’s models to program effectively for both Blackwell and Rubin GPUs. He said that work turns knowledge into high-performance kernels and shows advantages across latency, throughput, and cost.

Uday Ruddarraju, OpenAI’s compute technology chief, said the company’s work with Nvidia is helping make AI faster and more useful.
