OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman has formally taken over product strategy, consolidating ChatGPT, Codex, and the developer API into a single core product team. He had been temporarily overseeing products during AGI deployment lead Fidji Simo's medical leave, and the move now makes the role permanent while he continues to oversee AI infrastructure.
In an internal memo, Brockman said the product lines were “naturally converging” and that the merger aims to concentrate resources on the Agent direction. ChatGPT is no longer just a chatbot, Codex is no longer just a coding tool, and the developer API is no longer a standalone product line — all three are now under one team.
Super App Blueprint: Desktop All-in-One
Thibault Sottiaux, previously Codex engineering lead, has been promoted to head of the core product and platform team. He is leading development of a desktop super app that integrates Codex, ChatGPT, and the Atlas browser into a unified experience. Codex currently has 3 million weekly active users, adding 1 million each month. OpenAI wants to put coders and chatters into the same interface without confusing either group. Brockman described the strategy as “investing in a single Agent platform.” This direction surfaced as early as March, when OpenAI announced plans to integrate the three into a desktop app. April updates added background computer operations, an in-app browser, and GitHub PR review capabilities. The personnel change now puts an organizational stamp on that timeline.
Leadership Shuffle: Turley Goes Enterprise, Consumer Gets a Meta Veteran
Nick Turley, who grew ChatGPT from zero to 900 million weekly active users, is exiting consumer business entirely to become enterprise product lead. The signal is clear: OpenAI believes the next growth engine is B2B, not B2C. ChatGPT already has 9 million paying enterprise users, quadrupling in six months.
Taking over consumer products is former Instagram VP Ashley Alexander, who spent 12 years at Meta (11 on Instagram product teams) focused on ads, creator monetization, and video content. Around the same time, AI video tool Sora was shut down, the science division was dissolved, and head Kevin Weil left — primarily because compute resources were being redirected to the Agent platform.
