According to The Block, Payward—the parent company of Kraken—has officially launched the xStocks framework, opening U.S. stock initial public offerings (IPOs) to global retail investors. Through Kraken and partner platforms, users can subscribe to IPO shares at the issue price and receive on-chain tokenized shares that correspond 1:1 with the underlying stocks. The actual shares are held by a regulated third-party custodian, ensuring that the underlying assets are securely managed and compliant throughout the process. This service targets users worldwide, aiming to leverage tokenization to break down geographical and access barriers associated with traditional IPOs, marking Payward’s latest step in bridging conventional finance and the crypto ecosystem.

On the participation workflow, investors can submit non-binding indications of interest through partner platforms weeks before the IPO. Payward aggregates all expressions of demand and collaborates with the underwriting syndicate to allocate shares. On the listing day, the platform finalizes pricing, executes allocations, and issues xStocks tokens to subscribers, completing a closed loop from intent submission to on-chain asset delivery.

From a technical standpoint, xStocks tokens are issued on a multi-chain architecture, with native support for Ethereum, Solana, TON, and other public blockchains, enabling seamless cross-chain circulation. Holders can directly use these tokens as underlying assets within various DeFi protocol combinations—such as collateralized lending, liquidity provision, and yield farming—without needing extra cross-chain bridges. The multi-chain approach also gives users the flexibility to choose their preferred network for transactions and asset management. Investors can manage these tokens in non-custodial wallets and participate flexibly in on-chain financial activities. Additionally, the on-chain transparency and traceability help bolster investor confidence in asset security. By merging the accessibility of traditional IPO participation with the composability of crypto finance, this design carves out a compliant and efficient on-chain primary market channel for retail investors.
