Pingu Exchange, a decentralized perpetual contract trading platform, has announced that it will permanently cease operations on July 31, 2026. Launched on Arbitrum in January 2024 with just $270,000 in initial capital, the platform amassed approximately $2.4 billion in trading volume over nearly two and a half years, distributing around $650,000 in ETH and USDC rewards to stakers during that period, and had become a notable derivatives protocol in the Arbitrum ecosystem.
The tide turned after the team migrated the platform to the Monad mainnet. Roughly six months post-migration, Pingu’s trading volume totaled only about $80 million, a stark contrast to its previous performance. Facing a sharp decline in fee revenue, core team members stopped drawing salaries starting February 2026 to avoid depleting the project treasury. Despite these sacrifices, the team ultimately decided to wind down the platform. The notice urges all users to withdraw their assets and close any open positions before the July 31 deadline.
