Data Snapshot: pUSD Surpasses $500M Total Supply
According to data tracked by @defioasis, the total supply of pUSD, the native stablecoin used within Polymarket's prediction market ecosystem, has exceeded $500 million with over 1 million unique holder addresses. pUSD represents users' cash balances and serves as the primary denomination for participating in Polymarket events.
Concentration Analysis: A Tiny Minority Dominates the Majority of Funds
Extreme polarization is evident on-chain: just 567 addresses (0.06% of all holders) possess more than 100,000 pUSD each, collectively accounting for 55.34% of the total pUSD supply. Addresses holding over 1,000 pUSD represent 2.76% of all holders but control 90.34% of the supply. In stark contrast, 51.96% of holders maintain balances below 10 pUSD, representing only 0.19% of the total supply.
Even when accounting for users who have fully allocated their funds into active positions, this distribution pattern underscores an extreme wealth concentration effect within the prediction market. A small cohort of “whale” addresses wields disproportionate influence over market outcomes, while the vast majority of participants engage with minimal stakes.
Market Implications and Outlook
The high concentration of pUSD carries two significant implications. First, the movement of large sums by a few whales can materially impact market depth and price volatility. Second, during major event resolutions, a handful of large holders could sway settlement or payout dynamics. As Polymarket continues to expand its user base, addressing this imbalance — whether through incentives for broader distribution or enhanced liquidity mechanisms — will be crucial for maintaining market resilience and fairness.
