Masami Kurumada, the man behind the hit manga series Saint Seiya, has taken his former manager, along with several relatives and acquaintances, to the Tokyo District Court, according to Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun. The suit says the defendants siphoned off about ¥4.68 billion from three companies, including Kurumada Production, over roughly six years. How? Transfers out of company accounts and the interception of copyright licensing fees. Part of that money was reportedly put into cryptocurrency.
The matter surfaced during a tax audit by the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau in 2024. Around ¥1.8 billion of the embezzled money has already been returned. Kurumada is now asking the court to award him ¥2.89 billion in damages from the defendants.
