Crypto analyst Darkfost said on Oct. 18 that small- and mid-cap tokens have posted the strongest market-cap growth since late August, standing well ahead of Bitcoin and large-cap assets. According to the data cited by the analyst, the gap between the annual average and monthly average market capitalization for this segment has continued to widen, with the ratio now at 41%. By comparison, Bitcoin is still showing a positive growth trend, but at a much smaller scale, with the same ratio at 7%. Large-cap assets are even lower at 3.5%. Darkfost described the setup as relatively rare, noting that Bitcoin is usually the asset that kicks off a broader market move, as seen after the end of the 2023 bear market. He added that small- and mid-cap tokens are more sensitive to capital flows and market sentiment. That sensitivity means the current trend could reverse sharply in either direction over a short period, leaving investors exposed to elevated volatility tied to this market structure.

According to BlockBeats, crypto analyst Darkfost said on Oct. 18 that small- and mid-cap tokens have seen the strongest market-cap growth since late August.

Data cited by the analyst shows that the gap between the annual average and monthly average market capitalization for this group has kept widening, with the ratio now reaching 41%.

Bitcoin, by contrast, is still in positive territory, but the move is far more limited, with the ratio at 7%. Large-cap assets are lower still at 3.5%.

Darkfost said this is a fairly rare pattern. In most cases, Bitcoin is the asset that starts a broader market move, as was clearly seen after the 2023 bear market ended.

He also said small- and mid-cap tokens are more sensitive to market capital and sentiment, which means their trend can reverse quickly in either direction over the short term. Investors, he said, should stay alert to the high volatility risk that comes with this market structure.
