Solana-based meme token moo deng (MOODENG) has emerged as one of the market’s standout movers. Recent data shows the token gained 98% in the last 24 hours and an eye-catching 1,398% over the past seven days. It also recorded $147 million in global trading volume in a single day, making it the day’s top-performing token by price action.
From viral baby hippo to meme-coin phenomenon
MOODENG draws inspiration from Moo Deng, a baby pygmy hippopotamus at Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo. After being born in July 2024, the animal quickly became an internet sensation thanks to widely shared clips posted by her zookeeper. Her image spread across social media, memes, merchandise, and advertising, creating the kind of viral momentum that often spills over into crypto speculation.
The token’s rally has been dramatic. On Sept. 20, 2024, MOODENG was trading at just $0.019 per token. By 3 p.m. ET on Sept. 27, it had climbed to $0.288, marking a new all-time high. That surge pushed the token to roughly the 250th-largest crypto asset by market capitalization, with a valuation of about $266.7 million.

According to Solscan, MOODENG has a supply of approximately 989,968,252.02 tokens and 23,151 holders. The token has already recorded 169,833 transfers, suggesting strong on-chain activity for a relatively new meme asset.
Holder distribution also offers insight into the token’s structure. The largest wallet holds 18,141,362.25 MOODENG, equal to 1.83% of circulating supply. Meanwhile, the top five holders together control 6.95% of all tokens. While that does not indicate extreme concentration based on the available figures, meme coins remain highly sentiment-driven and can shift quickly with changing market attention.
