Sony-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Soneium said it plans to issue a native token, $SONEIUM, as part of a broader push to connect entertainment creators, intellectual property holders, builders, fans, and investors. Announced on Oct. 26, 2026, the plan focuses on tokenized intellectual property, with products spanning royalty-backed assets, entertainment investment, and automated revenue sharing. Soneium said tokenized IP is designed to represent the future economic value of creative works on-chain, allowing creators to raise funds from fans and investors and share commercial proceeds through automated payout mechanisms. The network, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, also introduced several product components, including Soneium Portal for IP discovery, issuance, and investment, IP Vault for royalty-backed assets and indirect access to opportunities such as music catalog funds, and IP Bonds backed by entertainment businesses. Its first projects will target Asian pop culture through partnerships with Super State Holdings and DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform, including initiatives tied to Moriusa, BTOB, and Lee Chae-yeon.

Soneium, the Sony-backed Ethereum layer-2 network, plans to issue a native token called $SONEIUM to connect entertainment creators, intellectual property holders, builders, fans, and investors. The plan was announced on Oct. 26, 2026, and centers on tokenized intellectual property, with products covering royalty-backed assets, entertainment investment, and automated revenue sharing.

The network was developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs, Sony’s blockchain unit. Soneium said tokenized IP is meant to represent the future economic value of creative works on-chain, giving creators a way to raise capital from fans and investors while sharing commercial returns through automated revenue splits.

How Soneium says the tokenized IP model will work

According to Soneium, the related tokens can represent a creator, a studio, or an individual work. They may take the form of collectibles used for fan activities, or fungible tokens circulating within the IP economy tied to that property.

Soneium Portal is positioned as an entry point for IP discovery, issuance, and investment, with royalties paid automatically through smart contracts. IP Vault is intended to support royalty-backed assets and offer indirect participation in opportunities such as music catalog funds. IP Bonds, meanwhile, will be backed by entertainment businesses.

First projects target Asian pop culture

The first batch of projects will focus on Asian pop culture. Soneium named Super State Holdings and DayOneDream’s WAVIST platform as partners. The former will start with the character Moriusa, while the latter will use WAVIST for concert-business royalties involving artists including BTOB and Lee Chae-yeon.

Network background and current metrics

Soneium mainnet went live on Jan. 14, 2025. It is built on Optimism’s OP Stack, uses ETH for transaction fees, and has already used the stablecoin USDSC for settlement.

Soneium said the network hosts more than 250 applications, with about $9.38 million locked across those apps. Sony also invested $13 million in infrastructure partner Startale Labs in early 2025.
