Odaily reported that The Kobeissi Letter published a data analysis on X showing that the semiconductor sector’s weight in the U.S. stock market has continued to rise. According to the post, semiconductors now represent about 18.8% of the total market capitalization of the S&P 500, marking a new historical high.
The analysis stated that this share has more than tripled since 2022. Over the same period, the semiconductor index SOX has accumulated a gain of about 546%, underscoring the sector’s leading position within the current technology cycle as described in the data.
From a historical comparison, The Kobeissi Letter noted that the current semiconductor weight in the S&P 500 has already exceeded more than half of the peak level seen during the 2000 internet bubble. The analysis said the structure of the U.S. equity market is continuing to concentrate around AI and the semiconductor supply chain, with technology stocks reaching an extreme historical level of influence over the broader index.
